Las Vegas Raiders named a team to shatter expectations in 2020

Recently, Randy Gurzi of NFL SpinZone put together a list of five NFL teams they feel could shatter expectations during the 2020 NFL season, and the Raiders came in at No. 5. The piece speaks to the team’s rebuild since Jon Gruden took over as a head coach, and how Mike Mayock has come in and nailed the draft and free agency.

Mayock had the luxury of taking over a franchise that had five first round picks over the first two years of his run as general manager, but he was able to do much more than just hit on his first rounders. The first-time GM has dominated in the later rounds, bringing in talent like Maxx Crosby and Hunter Renfrow last season, while Amik Robertson was viewed as one of the steals of the 2020 draft.

In addition, Gurzi pointed to free agents adds like Prince Amukamara, Maliek Collins, and Damarious Randall to the defense, as well as a veteran and future Hall of Famer in Jason Witten to the tight end room.

For the first time in a long time, the Raiders look not only talented on paper, but also deep, and the training camp battles should be fun to watch this summer. Seven wins in the first season in Las Vegas is not going to cut it, and based on the roster for the 2020 campaign, Gurzi is right to assume this team is going to turn some heads.
