Las Vegas Raiders linebacker group dramatically improved for 2020

Drafting of Tanner Muse

Since Mayock took over as general manager, he has done a nice job bringing in big-time players from big-time programs via the NFL Draft. In 2019, he dipped into the Clemson draft pool by bringing in Trayvon Mullen, Clelin Ferrell, and Hunter Renfrow, and in 2020, he brought in more Tigers.

Mayock selected Tanner Muse, a hybrid linebacker in the third round, and then added John Simpson, an offensive guard a round later. Those guys will be building blocks for the franchise moving forward, and while Simpson will likely learn behind Richie Incognito and Gabe Jackson as a rookie, Muse is going to be thrown into the fire.

Muse played safety at Clemson, but will make a full-time move to linebacker at the NFL level. With a solid camp, he could certainly slide in as the starter at SLB, giving the Raiders another talented cover guy who is not afraid to come up and make the big hit.

During his time at Clemson, Muse was an impact player for arguably the best team in college football, and the hope is he can bring that same kind of intensity with the Raiders.
