Marquel Lee release another blemish on Raiders 2017 draft class

The Bad: Eddie Vanderdoes, David Sharpe, Shalom Luani, Treyvon Hester

Eddie Vanderdoes was chosen in the third round, 88th overall out of UCLA, but from the start, there were questions about his durability which ultimately proved to be his downfall. Vanderdoes only played one season with the Raiders after tearing his ACL in the final game of the 2017 season and perhaps should be placed in the “Ugly” category, but we can’t fault a player for injuries.

After missing the 2018 season, he has found a new home with the Houston Texans, but has opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Sharpe is another candidate that should probably be in the ugly category, but at least he is still in the NFL after being selected in the fourth round,129th overall. Sharpe bounced back and forth from the Raiders to the Houston Texans practice squad, and back to Oakland, and recently signed a one-year deal with the team.

He is a cut candidate as the team has brought in a number of veteran offensive lineman so he may very well be joining the “Ugly” contingent soon.

Shalom Luani was a late round flyer, seventh round, 221st overall to be specific, and has made a career so far by contributing on special teams. His snap counts have gone down over his three-year career, and he is currently a free agent, but he is still just 25 and could possibly return to his soccer career where he has starred for American Samoa’s national team.

Treyvon Hester may be the best of the bunch here which is really saying something. The reserve defensive tackle was chosen out of Toledo in the seventh round, 244th overall, and seems to be on his way to a journeyman career as he joined his fourth team in four years this offseason.

He made a minimal contribution in Oakland but at least he still has a job in the NFL.
