Curious case of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr
Looking back on the 2019 NFL season
The 2019 NFL season looked to be a magical one for the Raiders early on, as they navigated a tough early-season schedule to move out to a 6-4 mark. At that point, it looked like they were a shoe-in to finish out their time in Oakland with a playoff appearance, which would have enabled Carr to play in his first playoff game.
Unfortunately, Carr and the Raiders finished the season by losing five of six games, and the fan base really let their sixth-year starter hear it in the final game in Oakland. Carr had apparently put the game away with a late first round, but it was called back, and the Jacksonville Jaguars ended up coming from behind and beating the Raiders, essentially burying any legitimate shot they had at the playoffs.
The booing was hard on Carr, who has a deep love for the Raiders franchise, and takes great pride in being the team’s starting quarterback.
For the season, Carr put up some of his best statistics, and he even said on Tuesday that he felt he played better than he did during his near-MVP 2016 season. He finished with over 4,000 yards, completed more than 70 percent of his passes, and really seemed to master Jon Gruden’s intricate offense.
