Darren Waller could have the Raiders second 100-catch season

Tim Brown the only one to ever do it

In the history of the Raiders franchise, only one player has ever eclipsed the 100-catch mark. That player was Hall of Famer Tim Brown, who hauled in 104 catches as a 31-year old during the 1997 NFL season. In fact, Brown hold two of the top-5 reception seasons in team history, as he also recorded 91 during the team’s 2001 season.

Looking at the complete list on Pro Football Reference, you will see that Waller is not the only tight end in team history to put up 90 or more catches. In fact, Todd Christensen has the second and third-most receptions in a single season, catching 95 in 1986, as well as 92 in 1983.

It is still incredible that he is not in the Hall of Fame.

Jon Gruden’s offense has a lot of moving parts, and while the addition of so many  talented players could take some emphasis off Waller, it is not going to impact his production. This is a guy who can get open against any kind of coverage, and you can be sure that he is once again going to be a focal point in the offense along with star running back Josh Jacobs.

Waller is a special talent, and has solid players around him at the position group, including veteran Jason Witten, who is only going to help him reach his full potential. Brown stands alone as the only Raiders player to get to 100 catches, but if he plays a full 16-game slate, you can expect Waller to join him.
