2020 Las Vegas Raiders over/under: Trayvon Mullen 6 interceptions

The Case for the Over

As mentioned in the previous slide, a player recording six or more interceptions does happen, even if it is a relatively rare feat, so Mullen doing so is very possible. In just ten starts last season, Mullen recorded one interception and had another wiped away by a phantom pass interference call against the Kansas City Chiefs.

He also dropped a surefire pick-six against the Houston Texans, but that is a regular occurrence for defensive players.

Assuming a full season for Mullen where he plays 90% or more of the Raiders’ defensive snaps from Week 1-16, then six interceptions is well within the realm of possibility. The Raiders’ defense should be much improved from 2019, especially the pass rush, and that will help Mullen and the rest of the defensive backs record more interceptions. It was no coincidence that many of the teams with the most sacks in 2019 were also at the top of the leaderboard in interceptions as well.

If the Raiders pass rush is much improved from a poor 2019, then it should stand that the Raiders interception numbers, and as a result Mullen’s, should go up as well. Teams will also ideally be throwing more against the Raiders as the team as whole will be improved, which will give Mullen even more chances to force turnovers.
