All signs point to former UNLV linebacker Javin White latching on with the Las Vegas Raiders, which would be one of the feel-good stories of the summer.

In terms of guys who are really standing out through the start of training camp, one player who was not even drafted is starting to get a ton of buzz. That player is linebacker Javin White, who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent, and is making a push to not only make the team, but be a starter.

That would be the feel-good story of the summer, as like the Raiders, White made his way to Las Vegas via Oakland, California. A four-year letter winner at UNLV, White played all over the field on the defensive side of the ball, suiting up at safety, cornerback, and linebacker.

Not only was White a dominant player during his time at UNLV, but he was honored by being named to the school’s All-Decade Football team thanks to his contributions. An incredible student off the field as well, he was twice named a Mountain West All-Academic Team player, and finished his career as the Runnin’ Rebels’ captain.

With the Raiders, White has been moved strictly to linebacker, a place where he is getting a lot of reps, and starting get a lot of attention. To see this kid work makes you crave for him to make the team, and he looks every bit the part of an NFL linebacker when he is on the field.

A true ballhawking player, White has the ability to make plays against the pass, and in the backfield, as he finished his college career with nearly 20 tackles for a loss. He also had nine interceptions for over 150 yards and a touchdown, while finishing his final season on campus with a career-high 79 tackles.

Incredibly, despite his versatility, White was not drafted by any team in the 2020 NFL Draft, and found a soft landing spot with the Silver and Black.

Linebacker has been an issue for the Raiders for quite some time, but they brought in two legitimate starters in Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski this offseason. They are still looking for someone to come in and be that third starter for the unit, and while White has a tall task ahead of him, this is the kind of kid who can come in and shock people.
