5 possible surprises from Las Vegas Raiders training camp

Javin White makes the roster

If the Raiders were featured on Hard Knocks this year Javin White would definitely be one of the storylines they cover. White is an Oakland native who played his college ball at UNLV, so he would be a natural fit as a reflection of the Raiders’ journey from California to Nevada.

The former Rebel is a tweener who played defensive back for much of his career, but switched over to linebacker for his senior season. He is currently listed as a linebacker on the Raiders roster and will more than likely stay at that position as he pursues a professional career. His chances at making the roster are hampered by the lack of a preseason, but as the Raiders look to get younger and faster at the position, White has an excellent chance to lay down roots in Vegas.

White was not invited to the NFL combine, but ran a 4.45 40 in his virtual pro day, and measured well at 6’2 and 218 pounds. His background as a defensive back should help him as a cover linebacker in the NFL, and his speed should translate at the highest level.

His initial contributions will likely be on special teams, and he is younger, faster, and cheaper than Kyle Wilber, so don’t be surprised if he is the fifth linebacker on the roster come Week 1.
