5 Pleasant surprises early on at Las Vegas Raiders training camp

Javin White

Javin White is another young player who has been brought up unprompted by his fellow players during interviews. Guenther said of White “He’s as good as an undrafted prospect as I’ve ever seen.” And Maxx Crosby said White was coming down hill like an “animal” during practices.

White will have a steep hill to climb as a rookie undrafted free agent who is likely to only get time on special teams if he makes the team.

However, White is a former defensive back turned linebacker who has a proven ability to cover wide receivers. His coverage ability might just be his ticket to the final roster, an ability the Raiders front office seemed to have put a premium on for the linebacker position this off-season.

If White makes the team, that would likely mean the departure of special teams ace Kyle Wilbur, and Nicholas Morrow would be the lone remaining linebacker who was on the roster last year.

We see stories like White every offseason, much like we did with Keelan Doss during the Raiders turn on HBO’s Hard Knocks. White is an interesting guy because he can do so many things well, and having another hybrid player who can tackle and cover is just what this defense needs.
