Las Vegas Raiders set for the long-term at cornerback position

Practice Squad/Possible Cuts

The final two names in the cornerback group that are unlikely to make the final 53-man roster are Dylan Mabin and Madre Harper. Mabin is an undrafted free agent that was with the Raiders in 2019, but did not play in any regular season games.

He is currently on the outside looking in and after signing a reserves/futures contract in January, so the practice squad appears to be his destiny.

Harper is another undrafted free agent that faces an uphill battle to make the squad in Week 1 after joining the Raiders this offseason. Harper started his college career at Oklahoma State before spending his junior and senior years at Southern Illinois.

Harper was a standout in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, and has good size at 6’1, and ran his 40 in under 4.5 seconds, so he has the measurables but maybe not necessarily the talent. Unfortunately for both Harper and Mabin, there is no preseason action to prove their worth, so they will have to do so in what little time remains in training camp.

We can expect both of them to find a home on the Raiders practice squad and will likely get to feature in a game or two based on the high turnover we see at defensive back.

With the exception of Lawson and Joyner, the other four cornerbacks expected to make the roster will all be 24 or younger when the season kicks off on September 13th. All four were drafted in the fourth round or higher, with Arnette and Mullen picked 19th and 40th overall, respectively.

This Raiders cornerback group has the pedigree, talent, and youth to grow into a potentially dominant unit and it has the Silver and Black set at the position for a very long time.
