Predicting the short-term and long-term impact of Raiders rookie class

Round 4, Pick No. 139: Louisiana Tech CB Amik Robertson

With their final selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders selected Amik Robertson, a ballhawking cornerback from Louisiana Tech. During his time at the school, Robertson had at least four interceptions in each of his three seasons, including two years where he had five.

Standing at only 5-foot-8, his size played against him in terms of draft position, but make no mistake, this guy can flat out play. In fact, he is such a good nickel cornerback that he could eventually force the Raiders to move Lamarcus Joyner, a high-priced 2019 free agent signing, back to safety, where he plays his best football anyway.

Next. Should the Las Vegas Raiders pursue Leonard Fournette?. dark

Joyner struggled mightily last season, and has already been called out by the coaching staff for his tackling this summer. If he falters, Jon Gruden will not hesitate to make the move to Robertson, as it is clear Gruden is going to put his young guys in a position to get experience, and get better in 2020.

  • Short-Term: Possible rookie starter later in the season
  • Long-Term: Starter as the nickel cornerback for multiple seasons
