2020 Las Vegas Raiders 53-man roster projection after training camp

Quarterbacks (2): Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota

Just about every roster prediction for the Raiders has them rolling with three quarterbacks on the active roster, but due to the new practice squad rules that allow any player, regardless of experience, to be eligible they may choose to stash Nathan Peterman there. The rest of the NFL world is not as high on Peterman as Gruden seems to be, but even if they are, the Raiders can protect four of the 12 players on their practice squad every week, and Peterman could be one of those four.

Derek Carr continued his tradition of having excellent training camps and all reports suggest that he has complete control of Gruden’s offense heading in to year three of their partnership. Carr has plenty of weapons and talent around him so as has been said many times this offseason, he is in an excellent position to succeed in 2020.

Marcus Mariota has been unimpressive in training camp and it appears that he is still working through the same injuries that hampered him in 2019. He was brought it in to push Carr, but he may not be healthy enough to do so.

This of course begs the question of whether the Raiders will stash him until he is healthy, or bring in another quarterback to fill out the practice squad just in case.
