University of South Carolina honors Raiders wideout Bryan Edwards

Raiders WR Bryan Edwards had a record-breaking career at South Carolina, and the school added him to their stadium heading into the 2020 season.

With their second of three third round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders selected South Carolina wide receiver Bryan Edwards. The record-setting wideout for the Gamecocks fell in the draft due to a few injuries, one suffered during his final season with the school, and another as he was preparing for the draft.

Still, Mike Mayock saw enough of him on tape to take him in the third round, and based on what we have seen this summer, he could end up being the steal of the draft. This is a guy who is physical, strong, and fast, and is going to play a huge role in this Raiders offense as a rookie and target for quarterback Derek Carr.

In fact, with Tyrell Williams going on injured reserve, Edwards is likely going to be a starter as a rookie, joining fellow first-year player, Henry Ruggs III. While we are all excited to see what he does at the pro game, his former school made sure nobody forgot what he did at South Carolina, bestowing on him an incredible honor this week.

The Twitter account for the school’s football program tweeted this out on Friday.

During his career at South Carolina, Edwards re-wrote the school’s record book in terms of the wide receiver position. He finished his career as the all-time leader in both receptions (234), and receiving yards (3,045), eclipsing some of the best wideout to ever play in the SEC.

That list includes current and former NFL players like Alshon Jeffery, Sterling Sharpe, Deebo Samuel, and Sidney Rice to name a few.

The 2020 season is going to be an exciting one for the Silver and Black, and the addition of Edwards to the receiving corps is a big reason why. He has blown everybody away this summer with his skill set, and the hope is that he and Ruggs can be the cornerstones at wide receiver for this franchise for years to come.
