Las Vegas Raiders at Carolina Panthers: 3 players to watch in Week 1

Derek Carr, QB

It’s obvious that Derek Carr has a chip on his shoulder this year. In a press conference last month he stated he was “tired of being disrespected” when asked whether or not he was opting out. Carr has been given the keys to the kingdom this season, and the Raiders front office went out and made sure they got him the weapons he needs to have a monster season.

Last season, Carr had just over 4,000 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Statistically speaking, it wasn’t his best season, nor was it his worst. The offense was plagued with injuries, as Tyrell Williams was out for a few games while Darren Waller became the No. 1 passing target.

Josh Jacobs led the team in rushing and should have been the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Where Carr excelled in last season was his completions. He was second in the league last year with a 70.4% completion percentage only behind Drew Brees, and only three quarterbacks went over 70% and those were Carr, Brees, and Ryan Tannehill. Not a bad group of guys to be in a group with.
