Las Vegas Raiders need to give Safety Earl Thomas a call

Why is Earl Thomas available?

The first question we should be asking is why a talented player who is still relatively young is available on the open market. After a tumultuous offseason that included a domestic incident with his wife where she reportedly threatened him with a firearm, Thomas reported to training camp and the headlines continued.

In late August, Thomas got in an altercation with teammate Chuck Clark and was sent home from practice and was not seen at the facility the following day. Thomas was released shortly after having played just one season of the four-year deal that he signed with the Ravens prior to the 2019 season.

One thing to note is that this is not a player with a history of these incidents so it came as a bit of a surprise that he was released for what may have been an ordinary training camp brawl. The Ravens may have chosen to release him for chemistry reasons, but a fresh start could reinvigorate him.

Las Vegas may be wary about bringing in another possible headcase after the Antonio Brown situation, but he has no history of such behavior so he is definitely worth a look.
