Facing an old foe in Emmanuel Sanders
To help bolster the receiver ranks and take some pressure off Thomas, the Saints wisely brought in Emmanuel Sanders this offseason. Brees has not had a legitimate number two option on the outside for quite some time, and even at the ripe age of 33 Sanders can still torch defensive backs.
He is an excellent route runner who can still run a sub 4.5/40 time, paired with some of the surest hands in the game. Last year, Sanders only accounted for a total of two drops on the year according to Pro-Football Reference, even after being traded to the San Fransisco 49ers mid-season.
Now that Sanders is back in the number one receiver role, he will have a chance to prove he still has plenty left in the tank. That tank is filled with multiple Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl throughout his career, and the drive to add more of both.
Thomas may be out, but Sanders is one that can still fill his cleats in the meantime.
