4 New England Patriots the Las Vegas Raiders should worry about in Week 3

Julian Edelman

You could argue that one of the biggest and most reliable constants during the recent seasons of the Patriot’s dynasty run is wide receiver Julian Edelman. Drafted in the 7th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Edelman was a quarterback at Kent State and quickly converted to a receiver/return specialist.

When his number was called, Edelman took it in stride and helped contribute to three Super Bowl Championships while winning MVP in Super Bowl 53 against the Rams.

The chemistry between him and quarterback Cam Newton got off to somewhat of a slow start. In Week 1 against Miami he reeled in five catches on seven targets for only 57 yards. Week 2 however sang a different tune, as Edelman and Newton hooked up for eight receptions on 11 targets for 179 yards.

The most dangerous part of Edelman’s game is his ability to lineup all over the field. His quick bursts allow him to gain separation right away and his shiftiness makes him dangerous in open space with the ball in his hands. If the Raiders are going to slow down Edelman in the passing game they are going to have to play sticky defense.

Being tight when they pass him off as he comes across the field and keeping hand to hip in and out of his breaks will make all the difference in the world in slowing down one of more dynamic receivers in the game.
