Derek Carr became the Raiders’ all-time leader in touchdown passes in Week 4, let’s take a look at the numbers to see how he broke Ken Stabler’s record

There was not much to be excited about on Sunday, as the Las Vegas Raiders fell short against the Buffalo Bills to lose their second straight game and drop their record to 2-2. The offense struggled at times, and the defense was a bit of mess, but there was one silver lining to the defeat as Derek Carr became the leading touchdown passer in franchise history.

The record was set by Hall of Famer, and the best quarterback in the storied history of the Raiders, Ken Stabler more than 40 years ago. Stabler threw his final touchdown pass for the Silver and Black on December 16th, 1979 in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks way back when they were still in the AFC West.

The fact that Stabler’s record has stood for so long is both a testament to his talent as a passer, but also to the Raiders struggles to find a long term answer at the position. Even Jim Plunkett, who won two Super Bowls with the Raiders in the 1980s was in and out of the starting lineup and started just 57 games over eight years in LA and Oakland.

Derek Carr on the other hand has been the starter since his rookie season and has been unquestioned in the role since the Raiders made the decision to start him over Matt Schaub in 2014. Since that September day in Week 1 of the 2014 season, Carr has thrown 151 touchdown passes and in just over six years is now at the top of the franchise leaderboard.

Let’s take a dive in to the numbers to see how Derek Carr broke Ken Stabler’s generation-old record.
