Offensive Rookie of the Quarter – OG John Simpson

The selection of John Simpson for the Offensive Rookie of the Quarter award is not something any of us would have predicted in the offseason. Simpson was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft as a player for the future and a player to provide some depth but was forced into a much bigger role.

The combined injuries of Richie Incognito, Trent Brown, and Sam Young forced Denzelle Good in to the left tackle position and Simpson into Incognito’s left guard slot. Simpson stepped in to the role against the Saints and started against the Patriots and performed admirably despite some early struggles.

Both Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards will have the chance to snatch the second quarter award now that Simpson is back on the bench , but it must be some comfort to the Raiders knowing they have a quality player in the fourth round rookie out of Clemson.
