Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: 3 bold predictions in Week 5

Chiefs get their first loss, and Carr gets his first win

It’s a record that sticks with Derek Carr for as long as he’s in the AFC West, and he himself knows it: he is 0-6 against the Chiefs on the road, proving that Arrowhead Stadium has been a constant obstacle for him. Carr iterated at the start of the season that he’s tired of the disrespect, and if he’s true to his word, then Sunday will be an opportunity to finally overcome a hurdle that has plagued him in his career.

By no means will it be easy, but it’s well known that Kansas City will work on doubling Darren Waller in the passing game, containing Josh Jacobs in the ground game, and ultimately making Carr take some shots downfield, seeing if he trusts his receivers (even if the depth has taken a hit) to make a play. If Carr can do that, the Raiders are in a better shape to hand Kansas City their first loss of the season, and giving Carr his first-ever victory at Arrowhead.

And ultimately, what bolder prediction can there be other than that? It would be one of the bigger upsets of this season to date, but Carr lost by only a touchdown in his first-ever career matchup with Patrick Mahomes, and Las Vegas already surprised many in their Monday Night Football win over Drew Brees and the Saints. Kansas City is by far a much tougher opponent, but in this division, the Chiefs are the benchmark, and they’re a team that Jon Gruden and company must figure out to beat.
