Game Preview

The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off a win against the Cleveland Browns on the road off the strength Josh Jacobs and the running game.  Derek Carr had his lowest statistical game going 15/24 for 112 yards and one touchdown, but he did what he had to do to get the victory.

To be fair, he should’ve had another touchdown, as he threw a pass to the back of the end zone to rookie receiver Henry Ruggs III but refs ruled him out of bounds even after a challenge by Jon Gruden. When you look closely, you can see a slice of green in between his foot and the out of bounds, so it was shocking they did not reverse the call.

Carr later threw a touchdown to Hunter Renfrow, then Daniel Carlson added a field goal later in the 4th quarter to secure the win for the Silver and Black.  The defensive and offensive line deserve a special shout out for this game.  The offensive line once again had two starters missing, as left guard Richie Incognito is still out due to an Achilles injury, but right tackle Trent Brown who was in line to start was rushed to the hospital before the game due an incident with his IV where air was allowed to enter his veins.

He was released from a Cleveland hospital on Tuesday.

The defense didn’t allow the Browns in the end zone, and only allowed six total points with a mix of impressive play by them, and sloppy play by the Browns offense nevertheless it was a step up from the game against the Buccaneers where they allowed 45 points.  The defense is looking to improve as they get healthier with first round pick Damon Arnette is slated to return soon.

The Chargers are coming off a heart breaking last second loss to division rival Denver Broncos,  31-30.  It was a fitting loss for the Chargers, as they held a double-digit lead late into the game before squandering it to the struggling Broncos offense.  Justin Herbert once again was impressive to start the game, but ended up throwing his second interception of the gam, which ultimately ended up costing them the game.

It was the worst start of his young career, but that isn’t saying much, as he still threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns.  Even with the injuries and defensive struggles this season, the defensive line and secondary minus Desmond King, who was traded to the Tennessee Titans earlier this week, will be a tough test for this Raiders offensive line and Derek Carr, especially if Trent Brown is unable to play.
