4 reasons the Las Vegas Raiders will beat the LA Chargers in Week 9

Derek Carr has been on fire on the road

Derek Carr has had an excellent season so far, but he has truly excelled on the road, even when you take in to account the brutal conditions of the Week 8 matchup with the Browns. Carr threw for just 112 yards against Cleveland but he took care of the ball and managed to keep his completion percentage about 60 despite the weather.

It was his worst completion percentage by more than 4 points and his passer rating of 87.3 was his lowest of the season by at least 10 points. Even with that game in the mix, Carr has thrown for 958 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception in 4 road games so far. His passer rating on the road of 111.7 is three points higher than his home rating and he has more rushing yards and a higher air yards per attempt on the road.

Carr has shown a masterful grasp on Jon Gruden’s offense in his third year in this system and that has been even more evident in difficult conditions. The atmosphere in SoFi Stadium won’t pose a challenge as there will be no fans in attendance so we can expect more of the same high level of play from the veteran quarterback.

He was not flustered by 35MPH winds and a rowdy but small crowd in Cleveland so the pristine conditions in Los Angeles should make no impact on his game. The Chargers also don’t have a dominant pass rush and if star defensive end Joey Bosa is forced to miss the game with a concussion then it should make things all that much easier for Carr and the offense.
