4 Los Angeles Chargers the Las Vegas Raiders should worry about in Week 9
By Kenny King
The Las Vegas Raiders will look to move to 2-0 in the AFC West against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Here are three Chargers to worry about.
This Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders take a quick trip to Los Angeles to face a familiar foe in AFC West division rival Los Angeles Chargers. In what is typically characterized as the Raiders “9th home game” due to the abundance of Raiders fans in Southern California, this game is different in that it will be played without fans due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2-5 Chargers are once again a handful of bad plays away from a winning record, and are not to be overlooked, as they have dynamic playmakers on both sides of the line of scrimmage who can make an impact in a bitter division rivalry game.
Here are four they should worry about in Week 9
Justin Herbert, QB
For the past 17 years, the Raiders had faced the familiar grimace of gunslinger Philip Rivers, whose unconventional trash talk and play style would raise ire and frustration from Raiders players and fans alike. This offseason, Rivers left the Chargers and joined the Indianapolis Colts, leaving a void in the quarterback room.
The Chargers drafted Justin Herbert with the 6th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and while Herbert was supposed to be sidelined while starter Tyrod Taylor took the field, a medical incident involving the team’s medical staff and Taylor forced Herbert into a starting role instantly. Since taking over, Herbert has showed poise and power as he has put up impressive stats despite the Chargers current record.
Herbert, who grew up a Charger fan (they actually exist) understands the rivalry and will enter the contest ready to go.
