Las Vegas Raiders 2020 Week 11 review: Studs and Duds

Duds – Part 1

Nelson Agholor’s drops

This is a bit harsh as Nelson Agholor was the Raiders’ best receiver on Sunday night as he led all receivers with 6 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown grab was a beautiful throw by Derek Carr and Agholor did well to get both feet in before going out of bounds. He made several other big plays in the game to keep drives alive but unfortunately his two drops will be remembered more than anything else.

The first came in the second quarter when the Raiders had a chance to build on their 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go in the half. Las Vegas had just crossed in to KC territory when Carr found Agholor 15 yards downfield and hit the sliding receiver right in the chest but the ball bounced harmlessly to the turf. The Raiders would go on to punt and the Chiefs could not score to end the half but if he makes the catch they are already in field goal territory with a chance to go up 10 before the half.

The second drop came in the fourth quarter with the Raiders yet again leading by three and were looking to put some distance between them and the Chiefs. Las Vegas had the ball on their own 38 facing third and 4 and Carr, feeling some pressure in his face, lofted the pass up to Agholor who tried and failed to make a diving catch at the Kansas City 25.

It was a somewhat difficult catch but the ball hit him in right in the hands and is a catch that a good receiver has to make. If Agholor catches that pass the Raiders are just outside the red zone and have an opportunity to go up two scores over KC.

Agholor has been great for the Raiders this year and has made some big catches but he is proving that for all his ability, he still has trouble making catches consistently. The former Eagle may be earning himself an extension with his play but it appears that he will always be a player that struggles with drops throughout his career.
