Grading the Las Vegas Raiders rookie performances in 2020 Week 12

Henry Ruggs III

The Las Vegas Raiders’ offense came out flat, amassing only 243 total yards while giving the ball away five times. Rookie receiver Henry Ruggs, however, made a big play and wasn’t completely invisible as he was in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs, which is at least one positive thing.

Late in the first quarter, Ruggs ran a go route down the right sideline and quarterback Derek Carr threw a bomb up to him. Ruggs turned his shoulder and hauled in the pass in traffic for 36 yards, barely stepping out of bounds in what could have been a huge touchdown early on in the game.

This was a refreshing play to see from Ruggs, as he has had problems with tracking the ball downfield, as well as adjusting his body to make the catches. On this play, he high-pointed the ball and was able to haul it in while closely guarded.

Ruggs finished the day with three receptions for 56 yards on five targets. The 56 yards were his highest yards total since his 118-yard game in the Raiders’ first meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs back in Week 5.

Five targets is also the most he has ever been targeted thus far in his career, which is low volume for a first-round receiver. Hopefully, the Raiders will try to manufacture more touches for him into their gameplan in the future.

Grade: C+
