Las Vegas Raiders 2020 Week 13 review: Studs and Duds

Studs – Part 3

Clelin Ferrell

Clelin Ferrell missed two games this season after testing positive for COVID-19 and was sorely missed by the Raiders’ defense. In the first he missed, the Raiders were gashed by the Chiefs on the ground and they ran with ease behind the left side of the offensive line where Ferrell usually lines up.

He was missed yet again against the Falcons though he likely would not have made much of a difference given how loose the Raiders were with the ball. In Sunday’s matchup with the Jets, Ferrell was the standout performer on defense and came through with two huge plays for a unit that was struggling to get stops.

The first big play was a clean strip-sack of Sam Darnold on the Jets 26 which set up the Raiders already in field goal range and lead directly to a field goal by Daniel Carlson. The second big play was even more vital as the Jets were driving into Raider territory at the end of the first half and Ferrell came through with another strip-sack to take points off the board from the Jets.

Those plays were Ferrell’s first sacks of the year though he has been among the best on the team in pressures and QB hits even with his two-game absence. Ferrell is a key cog in this Raider defense and he made an impact on the game befitting a player of his draft pedigree.
