Studs – Part 2
Darren Waller comes up big
The Raiders were without Josh Jacobs against the Jets and struggled to get the run game going with their trio of backup running backs but that did not matter much because they still had their best offensive player in Darren Waller. The standout tight end had over 120 yards receiving and two touchdowns before the end of the first half and he was just getting started.
Waller ended the game with 13 catches for 200 yards and could have had another touchdown was he not held near the goal line on the Raiders’ second to last drive. The Jets had absolutely no answer for Waller and Carr kept feeding his big target because he was constantly open.
The former Georgia Tech receiver made plays all over the field and routinely turned short completions into big plays, including his second touchdown where he made two defenders miss on his way to a 38-yard touchdown.
The story this season for Waller was that he was racking up a ton of catches but was not making much headway in terms of yardage but that all changed Sunday. Before the Jets game, he was on pace for over 90 catches but less than 800 yards and now he’s on pace for over 100 catches and nearly 1,000 yards.
Waller was the difference-maker for the Raiders today and he continues to be one of the standout performers on this team.
