Las Vegas Raiders bringing in reinforcements for injured secondary
How does this affect the Raiders this weekend?
The Colts offense has started to turn on the jets in recent weeks and is finally starting to score points with Philip Rivers at the helm. Rivers hasn’t lit up any statistical boards this season and didn’t really last season, but Frank Reich has been putting him in positions to excel throughout the year so far.
For the most part, the Raiders have had great success against Rivers, and the hope is that will continue again on Sunday. Remember, the Raiders are one spot behind the Colts in terms of the AFC Playoff race, so this is a monster game for both organizations.
I’d expect the Colts to attack Nevin Lawson deep with T.Y Hilton and Michael Pittman, and then attack the linebackers with Mo Alie-Cox and Jack Doyle. Reich and the Colts love to pull the running backs out of the backfield and attack the secondary and linebackers as well, so this is going to be a tough matchup for this Raiders defense.
The Raiders must stop the deep ball, blanketing Hilton with Trayvon Mullen, but it is the rest of the secondary that could have an issue. Sam Darnold and a bad New York Jets offense nearly beat them this past weekend, and with Paul Guenther struggling, for the most part, all season as the team’s defensive coordinator, the confidence is not high that he will dial up a gameplan to stop this Colts defense in Week 14.
