The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the more popular organizations in the world, and they landed inside FanSided’s top-250 fandom list.
The Las Vegas Raiders franchise has long been one of the more iconic in all of the professional sports, as the Silver and Black has a fan base that spans the globe. No matter what city they call home, whether it is Vegas, Los Angeles, or Oakland, this team never seems to lose their following, and they have even made some away stadiums their home away from home.
Recently, FanSided put together a list of the 250-greatest fandoms in the world, ranking everything from pop culture, sports teams, television shows, and personalities. Of course, the Raiders made the list, ranked almost exactly in the middle of anything you could consider popular.
Where do the Raiders rank
Out of everything in the world, the Las Vegas Raiders came in at No. 136 overall in the latest FanSided250. In the NFL specifically, they came in as the No. 14th ranked organization, which, if you ask any member of Raider Nation, seems a bit low.
Here are the criteria of the FanSided250 rankings.
"How do you evaluate fandom? You can try to quantify it. On each fandom’s FanSided 250 card, you’ll see three key statistics: the Fan Vote, Search Score, and Social Follows. But numbers alone can’t measure fandom, and so our editorial team dove deep into the presence and identity of each of the nominated fandoms. Each year, we continue to make tweaks to the methodology to make our system more accurate. This year, we’ve adjusted our values as well, placing a greater emphasis on buzz — how hot a fandom was in 2020 — than ever before. Our team took into account our longstanding values of magnitude (a fanbase’s size and scope), legacy (longevity and loyalty of the fanbase) and passion, but buzz was most important. If the fans of a player, team or entertainer have buzz, we see them all over social media, they are inescapable, they dominate every physical and virtual water cooler conversation. After much deliberation and healthy debate, 250 fanbases were ranked and ordered to be the list you see on the FanSided 250 today."
Derek Carr has his team in line to secure only the second postseason appearance of his career, though the first time around, he broke his leg before getting to help his team in the playoffs. The 2020 team has had their ups and downs, but it has been a solid first season in Las Vegas, where they recently built their beautiful new stadium.
Rival Kansas City came in as the No. 1 ranked NFL team on the rankings this season, and the No. 7 fan base of everything you could think of. Based on how Raiders fans think about their foes from Kansas City, you would be hard-pressed to find any fan that agrees with that.
Congratulations to the entire team at FanSided for putting this together
