Las Vegas Raiders: Handing out the 2020 Third Quarter Awards
Offensive Player of the Quarter – TE Darren Waller
Josh Jacobs was in the running for this award after strong performances against Denver and Kansas City, but a stinker against Atlanta and an injury absence against the Jets took him out of the running. With Jacobs out of the way and after his historic performance in Week 13, the clear winner of this award is Darren Waller.
The star tight end tore up the Jets with 13 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns and essentially put the team on his back with huge plays in the first half and in the fourth quarter. Waller was unguardable by any member of the Jets defense, and his reputation as a matchup nightmare continues to grow.
Waller’s huge performance puts him on pace for another 1,000-yard season, and was it not for Travis Kelce’s insane year, he would be getting much for love as the statistical leader at his position. Over his last four games, Waller has 27 catches for 348 yards and three touchdowns, giving him his best stretch of the year.
Last year, Waller was a Pro Bowl snub, but this year he should be a shoo-in for that recognition and should be the primary choice for a second-team All Pro mention as well. Waller has been the Raiders’ best offensive player not named Derek Carr and their shared success has led the Silver and Black offense.
Honorable Mention – Josh Jacobs
