Las Vegas Raiders: Handing out the 2020 Third Quarter Awards

Offensive Rookie of the Quarter – Henry Ruggs

We promise that this award is not just for his late-game heroics against the New York Jets, but he might deserve it for that game winning catch alone. Henry Ruggs was having a nightmare day before that touchdown, but the fact that he kept his head in the game and made that play is a testament to his mental toughness and maturity.

Aside from the Jets game, Ruggs has been a decent contributor to the Raiders’ offense this quarter and has seen his targets become more consistent. Except for the Chiefs game, Ruggs had four or more targets in every game and had 176 receiving yards total over that span.

These are of course not eye-popping numbers by any stretch, but if we’re grading on a curve for a young receiver trying to find his way in a run-heavy offense, they are not too shabby. The most important thing for Ruggs at this juncture is to stay healthy and keep his head in the game the way he did against the Jets.

If the Raiders are to make any noise over the next few weeks, especially with their running game struggles, they will need to keep Ruggs in the mix and keep feeding him targets. He is getting open at a decent clip and just his presence on the field makes opponents defend the Raider offense differently and if he can build on his Week 13 performance, we could see some big things from him.
