History suggests Derek Carr will start for the Las Vegas Raiders Saturday
By Brad Weiss
The Las Vegas Raiders saw Derek Carr go down due to injury this past Thursday, but if history has shown us anything, he will likely start on Saturday against Miami.
Early in the Las Vegas Raiders loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15, starting quarterback Derek Carr came up limp close to the Chargers’ end zone. The injury proved to be a significant one to the groin, and the early indication was that he would be out at least ten-to-14 days.
Well, in true Derek Carr fashion, the starter is likely in line to start for the Raiders this week, as the Miami Dolphins make their first trip to Allegiant Stadium. Against Los Angeles, backup Marcus Mariota came in and riled up the fan base, making incredible plays with his arm, and his legs, and looking a bit like Rich Gannon in the process.
While Mariota shined, this is Carr’s team, and he may be ready to go on Saturday.
Carr practiced in full on Wednesday
Vic Tafur from the Athletic tweeted out on Wednesday that Carr practiced in full, another sign that the seventh-year starter will likely be ready to go against the Dolphins. Remember, the Raiders are still technically alive in the playoff race heading into Saturday, and Carr has been pressing all week to be active for the matchup.
Carr has been a bit of an iron man since becoming the Raiders starter, and outside of a broken leg that ended his 2016 season, he has been more than reliable. In fact, he missed only one game after breaking his back a few weeks ago, showing just how tough he can be.
Of course, there are some in Raider Nation who were hoping to see more of Mariota, who looked outstanding in relief of Carr against Los Angeles, but if Carr can go, he should play.
Throughout his career, outside of the broken back and a broken leg, Carr has also suffered injuries to his ankle, MCL, and thumb. Throughout it all, he has tried to press through, missing only two regular-season games, and the Wild Card matchup against Houston, so he is never somebody to count out.
