Nelson Agholor, wide receiver

This is an interesting one for the Raiders because we’re not sure what they want to do at wide receiver going forward. When Nelson Agholor was added to the roster, Raider Nation drew an idle sigh. How were fans supposed to be elated about Mayock bringing in a wide receiver known for his drops?

In fact, Agholor had seven dropped passes in the regular season from 2018 thru 2019 with the Philadelphia Eagles. ‘Philly’ fans will always be quick to remind you of that stat, but they forget he was a key piece in their sole Super Bowl run.

Unfortunately, Agholor’s struggles with drops continued this year with the Raiders, as he’s totaled five so far. Nonetheless, drops aside, Agholor became the closest thing to a number one wide receiver that the team has. Tight end Darren Waller is quarterback Derek Carr‘s favorite target, but Aghlolor provided a veteran blanket for the signal-caller.

Agholor’s had 72 targets his way in 2020, coming down with 42 of them, adding up to 684 receiving yards. He’s also having a career year in averaging 16.3 yards per reception, his highest for a season as a professional. Per Spotrac, Agholor is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, just like Collins and Booker.

Whether the Raiders bring him back will depend on what they have planned for Tyrell Williams. The team’s already unable to get looks for rookie Henry Ruggs III, at some point, he has to become an offensive focal point. In a crowded room featuring Williams, Ruggs, Hunter Renfrow, and Bryan Edwards, Agholor might be the odd man out despite how well he has played this season.
