Raiders QB Derek Carr: Stud

Derek Carr’s critics have been running out of things to nitpick this season, as the veteran quarterback continues to deliver in huge situations despite being consistently let down by his defense. After his status for the game was in question all week, Carr suited up and delivered one of his best performances of the season against an excellent defense.

The Dolphins feature the No. 1 scoring defense in the NFL but you would not have guessed that with the way Carr was dicing them up all night long. Carr finished the day going 21-34 for 336 yards and a passing and rushing touchdown against that fierce defense and put his team in a position to win on multiple occasions.

Carr was also sacked and hit three times, but kept bouncing back with huge play after huge play, none bigger than the bomb to Nelson Agholor, which the veteran receiver turned into an 85-yard touchdown. It was clear that Carr’s mobility was compromised because of the groin injury, but he was still able to escape pressure on a few occasions to make plays, including the aforementioned touchdown to Agholor.

This game was a perfect example of why wins are not a quarterback stat because Carr delivered the win on a silver platter to his defense twice in the last four minutes of the game, but they could not keep the Dolphins at bay because of their mistakes. Derek Carr deserves better than the 2020 Raiders defense, and we will have to hope that he will get to play with a top-15 unit for once in his career.
