Should S Marcus Maye be on the Las Vegas Raiders radar this offseason?

Looking at Maye’s 2020 campaign

If Maye’s 2020 season with the New York Jets is any indication, he’d be an instant upgrade over anything they currently have. No disrespect to Jeff Heath and Erik Harris, but neither should be getting starts on an NFL team.

Maye played in 15 regular-season games, where he totaled 45 solo tackles, three tackles for a loss, and two sacks. He was brought in on 22 blitzes this season and had three quarterback pressures to go along with his sacks.

As far as in pass coverage, Maye gave up a 57.8 completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks. That percentage is based on the fact Maye was targeted 45 times while surrendering 26 completions. Overall, the safety surrendered 272 passing yards though he held signal-callers to a 79.1 passer rating.

Pro Football Focus broke down Maye’s 2020 snaps, he played 167 in the slot, 24 wide on the outside, and 545 at free safety. All in all, Maye played 267 snaps in the box though he also had 76 defensive line snaps.

Overall, PFF recognizes Maye’s coverage abilities, they grade them at 84.9 for the 2020 season. Playing all over the field, Maye won’t be a liability in the run, his current run defense grades at 72.2 this year. If the price is right and the Raiders have the flexibility, Maye makes more than sense during this upcoming offseason.
