Raiders should take a look at Jordan Smith from UAB

UAB’s Jordan Smith might not be a household name for Raider Nation but that doesn’t mean he’s not worth a gander. His collegiate career is more than noteworthy, though playing in the Conference USA might turn away casual fans.

Smith might’ve not played in the SEC, but the six-foot-seven, 255-pound defender is one word: a beast. As far as production, Smith these past two years amassed 23.5 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles, which are outstanding numbers no matter what conference you play in.

Pro Football Focus grades Smith solidly, though some will still hesitate due to the football conference he played in. His overall defensive grade comes in at 85.8, which is good, all things considered, and his strongest attribute is obviously the pass rush, which was graded at 91.4 for the 2020 season.

Smith’s film displays his imposing size, his overall frame is lengthy, and reminds me of Aldon Smith just based on watching him. He absolutely dominated opposing offensive lines, and he’s a devastating tackler, which is scary as he can put on more muscle as he transitions into the NFL.

Even if you take into account the football conference, there’s no denying he has a motor and pursues quarterbacks with reckless abandon. If the Raiders have the chance to nab Smith, they absolutely should pounce.
