Las Vegas Raiders: 3 things to help Johnathan Abram improve in 2021
By BD Williams
No. 1: The Raiders need to give him better coaches
One reason why we witnessed so much freelancing from the young defensive back is that is his personality, and he seems to be a guy who is going to play his own brand of football no matter what. He wants to be the hero, he wants to lay the game-winning hit, and make a crucial stop, that is just how he rolls, and while that can be a good thing, it also puts him in harm’sway.
Those traits need to be harnessed by the next defensive coordinator and perhaps eventually Abram will be applauded for those things if/when they go right in the future. The Raiders are rumored to be in the market for Gus Bradley, an architect of the Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” defense, so that will help Abram immensely.
Of course, with better coaching and better execution from the entire defense, Abram won’t have to put on his hero cape as often. If he can trust that the rest of the defense will do their jobs it will be easier for the defensive back to focus on his job.
