Raiders K Daniel Carlson: Stud

Daniel Carlson has been the most consistent member of the Raiders this season, much to the chagrin of some of Jon Gruden’s biggest critics. The former Auburn Tiger also made history today by becoming the highest-scoring player in a single season in Raiders’ history.

Carlson’s extra point in the first took his total to 143 points on the season which broke Sebastian Janikowski’s record of 142 set in 2010. The Raiders also went 8-8 in that 2010 season so maybe there’s some level of equilibrium that comes with your kicker setting record highs in a season.

Many of Carlson’s points came at the end of frustrating drives for the Raiders as they fell short in the red zone, or inside the 5-yard line, but none of that is his fault. When called upon to score points for the Raiders, far more often than not, Carlson stepped up and knocked it through the uprights.

Carlson was 45-47 on extra points this year 33-35 on field goal attempts including an incredible 4-4 from 50+ yards. His booming kick against the Saints from 54-yards sealed the Week 2 victory against the New Orleans Saints, and his reliability made him an incredible weapon for the Raiders’ offense. The Raiders always seem to have special talents at the specialist roles and it was a bit of a bumpy ride to replace Janikowski but the Silver and Black have a player they can count on for years to come.
