2021 NFL Draft: Top 3 positions the Raiders should target in first round

Raiders could add a defensive tackle in round one

Apparently, the popular consensus among fans and writers is that the Raiders need help within the interior of their defensive line. Maliek Collins was an extreme disappointment despite his ties to then-defensive line coach, Rod Marinelli, though if Marinelli’s ‘interim’ tag was to be removed, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Collins return.

Then there’s Johnathan Hankins, one of the best run-stoppers in the NFL. He could be paid elsewhere, as he is going to be a sought-after free agent, though it would behoove management to make him a priority. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of talent that will be available in the first round come April.

A defensive tackle such as Mel Kiper’s top prospect, Daviyon Nixon, would be an ideal pick depending on what happens with Hankins and Collins. Some may not be crazy about using a first-round pick on a defensive tackle but 2021 is different. The lack of pressure from the interior in 2020 was highly concerning, in fact, the lack of sacks and pressures is alarming.

Needless to say, a player such as Nixon in the first round wouldn’t be a bad idea. Let’s take a look at another positional group that should be of priority in the first round.
