Las Vegas Raiders: 10 free agent wide receivers to target
Raiders FA WR targets: Chris Godwin – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The 2017 receiver class is teeming with talent with the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kenny Golladay but Chris Godwin may be the best of the bunch. After a career year in 2019 with 86 catches for 1333 yards in just 14 games, Godwin came down to earth a bit with a solid 2020 as he took some time to build a connection with his new QB Tom Brady.
After an initial adjustment period, Godwin became one of Brady’s favorite targets and put up 65 catches for 840 yards in just 12 games. Godwin missed several games with a few different injuries including a concussion and a broken finger on his left hand but was still very productive when on the field.
The 2019 season may have been his apex but at just 24 years old, the former Penn State Nittany Lion is still developing and has yet to fully enter his prime. Tampa Bay will likely look to keep him around long term as they will be thinking about life after Tom Brady as well as hoping to keep their Super Bowl caliber team in place during his tenure.
If they are not able to agree to a long-term deal, which many predict will be in the $20 million per year range like Golladay and Robinson, Tampa could place the franchise tag on him and keep him in town for at least one more year. Just like Golladay, Godwin would be the number one receiver in Las Vegas before he even put his silver helmet on but it would take some doing to land him.
Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock may need to make a splash this offseason to take some of the heat off of them as the Raiders missed the playoffs for the third year in a row so why not start with the best receiver on the market?
