Raiders FA WR targets: AJ Green – Cincinnati Bengals

AJ Green used to be one of the best receivers in the NFL but now it appears the question is what does he have left in the tank. Green started his career with seven straight Pro Bowl appearances and had six straight 1,000-yard seasons, becoming one of the most consistent receiving threats in the league.

As fortunes have turned for the Bengals, so have they for the former Georgia Bulldog. Green has played in 25 games over the past two years but has not topped 700 yards or 50 catches during that span. Those struggles have plenty to do with the carousel the Bengals have had at quarterback, and no stat exemplifies that as much as Green having just 47 catches on a whopping 104 targets in 2020.

The quality of the quarterback play in Cincinnati aside, Green has undoubtedly lost a step as he heads to his mid-30s, but he can still get open and his size at 6’4″ allows him to come down with 50-50 balls and make contested catches. Many members of Raider Nation wanted the team to trade for Green, as it became apparent the Bengals were rebuilding, but now they could bring him on a short team deal instead.

Green would be an ideal replacement for Williams as he can be a solid number one receiver for Derek Carr and his aforementioned size would help in the red zone as well. He may not be the most exciting option on the list but he could be a solid addition to a young receiver group and bring some veteran savvy to Las Vegas.
