Las Vegas Raiders: 5 players to keep an eye on during the Senior Bowl
By Brad Weiss
These players could help bolster the Raiders defense
New defensive coordinator Gus Bradley has a lot of work to do in terms of this defense, as they were once again one of the worst in football this past season. Hopefully, with a new attitude, scheme, and leader, the Raiders’ defense can actually get a few stops next season, but reinforcements are needed.
Here are three defensive players to keep an eye on during the 2021 Senior Bowl:
- Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State
The safety out of Florida State is definitely a name that should be on Mayock’s board, as he is an incredibly talented, ball-hawking defensive back. The Raiders have major issues at safety, including the development of Johnathan Abram, who looked out of place way too often last season.
- Carlos Basham Jr., DL, Wake Forest
A versatile defensive lineman who can get after the quarterback, Wake Forest’s Carlos Basham Jr. is someone who could slip to the Raiders in the second round. During his time with the Demon Deacons, Basham Jr. racked up nearly 20 sacks, including five in only six games this past season. The Raiders need help up front on defense, and he can give it to them.
- Shaka Toney, Edge, Penn State
After another terrible season in the sack department, the Raiders need help coming off the edge, and Shaka Toney from Penn State is one of the more consistent pass-rushers in this draft class. As NFL-ready as they come, Toney played four seasons in Happy Valley and would provide nice depth alongside Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby as a rookie.
