Renfrow has come a long way from being a just a fifth-round pick

Anytime a player is selected in the fifth round, there is not a ton of pressure put on them to perform. For Renfrow, he was a guy who was coming from an elite program, playing with elite quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence, so he was no ordinary fifth-rounder.

Starting his career deep on the Raiders depth chart, we will go into that in a bit, Renfrow was allowed to sit back and learn in Year 1. Sure, his team was on HBO Hard Knocks, but that was centered around guys like Antonio Brown and Johnathan Abram, not some fifth-round pick out of Clemson.

All the while, Renfrow was gaining the trust and respect of the Raiders franchise quarterback, Derek Carr, who was entering his second season in Jon Gruden’s offense. The subject of rumors all offseason, Carr put his head down and got to work, hoping to help the Raiders improve from a four-win season the year before.

While Renfrow was not in the plans early on, he would figure into the plans in a big way as the season got started, and he has been an absolute steal of a pick ever since.
