Las Vegas Raiders 7-round 2021 NFL Mock: Heavy on the defense
Azeez Ojulari can significantly improve the Raiders defense
The Raiders have been looking for a pass rusher since the 2018 season, where they traded away Khalil Mack and released Bruce Irvin after he seemingly decided to stop putting forth any real effort. Many mocks have the Raiders picking a stand-up linebacker at this spot, while many others have them selecting an edge rusher like Azeez Ojulari.
Ojulari is a junior, but has been a starter for two years with the Georgia Bulldogs, and has led the team in sacks in both seasons. In 21 games as a starter, Ojulari has recorded 15 sacks, including three in the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati in what would be his final game for the Bulldogs.
At 6’3″, 240lbs, Ojulari has the size to hold up against the run but has also flashed the athleticism and speed to potentially be an elite pass rusher at the next level. The Raiders have a bigger defensive end in Clelin Ferrell who can set the edge, and also play inside, so bringing in Ojulari as a pure pass rusher and playmaker is an intriguing prospect.
Depending on how he performs in offseason workouts and his pro day, we could see Ojulari’s stock rising too high to last until the 17th pick, but if he were to be available, the Raiders should snatch him up immediately.
