The largest factor at play is the ability to trade for a 25-year old quarterback who is already viewed as one of the best in the league. This opportunity does not arise very often, and when it does, nobody can fault a team for entertaining the idea.
The Raiders have to go against arguably the best quarterback in the league for the next decade. Although the Raiders split victories against the Chiefs this season, how long does a team wait before they attempt to match that firepower on the Chiefs’ offense?
There is no doubt that most of the Raiders’ struggles came on the defensive side of the ball, and with the firing of Paul Guenther, Gus Bradley hopes to reignite a defense that looked lost at times. The Raiders have pieces on defense in Maxx Crosby, Nick Kwiatkoski, and Trayvon Mullen, but there is a definite need for help on that side of the ball.
The intriguing part of this discussion comes into play when Mark Davis looks at a city like Las Vegas and the ability to bring in a top-5 quarterback. With fans potentially returning for the 2021 campaign, what better way to fill that beautiful stadium than with a player like Deshaun Watson.
Deshaun Watson vs. Patrick Mahomes twice a year would be a spectacle to watch, and it may never happen, but the team is always going to entertain the thought of it. The skill of Deshaun Watson and the ability to bring that to the entertainment capital of the world is something that should be at least looked at.
