Las Vegas Raiders: 10 free agent safeties to target
We are now headed firmly in the veteran direction with Tashaun Gipson and the rest of the names on this list. Gipson is a nine-year veteran having spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and most recently the Chicago Bears.
The former undrafted free agent out of Wyoming has been a solid player throughout his career, and even has a Pro Bowl on his resume, earning that honor in his third season with the Browns in 2014. Gipson has played both safety positions interchangeably and has shown an ability to make plays as shown by his 25 career interceptions and three defensive touchdowns.
At this point in his career, Gipson would be a stopgap option for the Raiders and could be a nice bridge player if they choose to take a safety early in the 2021 NFL Draft. He would also be considerably cheaper than many of the names on this list and the Raiders know exactly what they will be getting from him, solid play and durability.
Gipson has played all 16 games in four of the last five seasons and was on the field for at least 96% of Chicago’s defensive snaps in 15 games in 2020. He may not be the headline-making signing that many in Raider Nation hoped for but he would fill a need at a very good price.
