Las Vegas Raiders: 10 free agent safeties to target
If you thought the Las Vegas Raiders had cap issues going into 2021, the New Orleans Saints potentially have it much worse. This opens the door for a talented young player like Marcus Williams leaving New Orleans for a team that is willing and able to sign him to a long term deal.
Williams is a former second-round pick out of Utah who, much like many of the players on this list, stepped into a starting role straight away in his rookie season. The former Ute has been very durable in his short career, missing just four games in four seasons with the Saints.
Perhaps the purest free safety of the players mentioned so far, Williams has shown plenty of playmaking ability with 13 interceptions in 60 games. He does not get as mixed up in the run due to his usual alignment at the back end of the defense but that does not mean he is a liability in that department.
Williams is one of the younger names on this list at just 24 years old, and that makes him all the more intriguing considering he could be a cornerstone piece for the Raiders, and could play his way into a second contract with the Silver and Black before he turns 30. He has good size at 6’1″, 195lbs, and has the top-end speed to keep up with speedy receivers up the seam. Williams would be an excellent complement to the physical Johnathan Abram and could make for a dynamic safety duo.
