As usual, there are plenty of rumors surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders trading their quarterback this offseason, but this year, it is not just about Derek Carr.
Raiders backup quarterback Marcus Mariota is apparently generating a lot of interest throughout the league, and will likely lead to him being dealt to another team for a midround draft pick. Although not seeing the field much for the Raiders, Mariota had an impressive Week 15 performance filling in for an injured Derek Carr on Thursday Night Football, and at the quarterback position, one good game is usually all it takes to get a buzz around you.
Trading Mariota would save the Raiders over ten million in cap space, freeing up money to likely go after one of the top defensive free agents this offseason. There are plenty of teams in the market for a quarterback, but Mariota is not the caliber of quarterback to do a rebuild around for teams like the New York Jets or Houston Texans.
