Mariota would find a soft landing spot with the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have made it clear that they do not have a ton of faith in Mitch Trubisky or Nick Foles, as both quarterbacks were switched in and out multiple times throughout the season with minimal success. Chicago managed to squeak into the playoffs due to strong defensive play and a breakout season from David Montgomery, but if they ever want to take it to the next step, they will need to look elsewhere at quarterback.

Like the Colts, the Bears have a solid defense, but lack weapons on offense. The odds of Allen Robinson returning to Chicago are slim to none, but the young group of Darnell Mooney, Anthony Miller, and Cole Kmet make the talent on the offensive side bearable (no pun intended). Obviously, the Bears would like a bigger improvement at quarterback, likely being a team that will make a big push for Deshaun Watson, but if they cannot land him, Mariota may be the next best thing.

Another issue that the Bears will run into trying to bring in a quarterback like Watson or Wentz is their salary cap, as the Bears are currently in the negative, and the NFL’s cap is looking to drop the overall number. Mariota will be a reasonably priced player that the Bears can bring in without cutting half their roster, giving the Bears one last chance to see if they can win with a star studded defense and an average quarterback.
