With Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota generating trade interest, it makes you wonder, what is the asking price going to be for Las Vegas?
With rumors circulating about teams asking about Marcus Mariota, it appears that the former Oregon standout will be on the move this offseason, as the Raiders would love to clear up some cap space.
Although plenty of teams are interested, the Raiders will not be getting any star players or first-round picks for a quarterback of Mariota’s caliber. Teams that are willing to deal big for quarterbacks will be looking at players such as Deshaun Watson, Sam Darnold, Carson Wentz, and possibly Matt Ryan.
Teams that are looking for a cheap, year-long filler quarterback will be looking to take Mariota.
Although Mariota has a ton of potential, it is not like he is in a situation like Darnold where he is on his rookie contract and his struggles can be chalked up to his situation in New York. Mariota has had chances in Tennessee and was replaced for a QB that had better results immediately.
He did not get much playing time in Las Vegas, but the reports indicated that Mariota was not impressive, despite having a great showing in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football.
Mariota is a quarterback with a lot of questions surrounding him, a contract that costs over ten million dollars, and there are better quarterbacks on the market. Just because teams are calling about him does not mean they will offer much.
So what can the Raiders get for Marcus Mariota?
Although the Raiders will likely attempt to get a third-round pick for him, I believe his contract could keep the Raiders from getting that much, as teams will look at the situation as doing the Raiders a favor for even taking that contract off of them.
Las Vegas will likely end up trading Mariota for a fourth or fifth-round pick, or a weapon with potential that has just not worked out in the situation they are currently in, such as the Colts trading Philip Dorsett to the Patriots for Jacoby Brissett a couple of years ago. The highlight of the Mariota trade will be getting rid of his contract, as anything else is a bonus. Do not expect the Raiders to get too much, especially considering teams know that the Raiders basically have to get rid of him.
